Pictures from our Utah Trip: Places I Used to Live

I was born in Provo, UT, and lived in the area up until I was 19 years old. We lived in several places, mostly apartments until the family bought a house in Mapleton, UT. When we were there on our trip in November 2007, we drove around and took pictures of most of the places I lived, and the surrounding neighborhoods. We didn’t get to Springville, to the Wright’s house (where I lived for a while before my mission), so we’ll have to get those next time.

When I was about 5, we lived in an old, old house on 500 West (State Street) and about 200 South in Provo. I was always told that this was the very same house that my maternal grandmother, Merle Inez Carter Hansen, was born in. Alas, the house has been demolished, and only this empty lot remains.

After the house where my grandmother was born, we lived for a few years in a basement apartment in a 4-plex at 664 S 950 W in Provo (ours was the one on the bottom right):

While we lived there, I went to kindergarten at nearby Franklin elementary. Go Franklin Falcons! :-)

When I was about 8, we moved into a duplex at 1137 W 300 N in Provo. Ours was the unit on the right, which had the main level and the upstairs bedrooms. The unit on the left had the downstairs bedrooms:

About a block away was the church where I was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints when I was 12. My whole extended family are members of the church, but my parents were never active, so I was baptized later than normal, and never really got active in the church until I was about 18.

When I was almost 13, my parents bought a house in Mapleton, UT, a small community near the mouth of Spanish Fork canyon. Our house was at 2151 S 800 W. My parents sold it several years ago, and the neighborhood that had been mostly hayfields and open space was overrun by subdivisions. My old house was vacant when we visited, and pretty run down. The lot was almost an acre, and there were nothing but fields from the back of our house to Maple Mountain (which burned twice in wildfires while I lived there).

When I was about 18, after I graduated high school and before I left on my 2 year mission to Brazil, I lived with my best friend, Jack Wright. At first, we rented a huge 6 bedroom house on 300 S in Springville, which was way too big for the two of us. But we had fun while we were there!

A month later, Jack and I moved into a more reasonably sized condo apartment close to Springville High School (643 E and Swenson Ave.) until Jack left on his mission in February 1996 (I stayed with the Wrights, Jack’s parents and my second family, until I left on my own mission two months later in April).

How’s that for an illustrated trip down memory lane? This is kind of fun. I’ll post more late
