Gimme some soul

When it comes to music, my tastes are pretty eclectic. I like everything from classical to folk. But I must admit that in the middle of all that, I ‘m a soul girl at heart. I love R&B, blues and jazz. Aretha Franklin’s R.E.S.P.E.C.T. gets me groovin’. I can sing a mostly off-key, but soulful Alicia Keys (shout out to my nieces Elyse and Payge). I’m not sure where I get this, since the closest we got to soul music growing up was my parents’ Mo Tab records. I have several current favorite R&B albums (more on those in future posts), one being Growing Pains by Mary J. Blige. Ever since I heard Work That on the iTunes commercial, I knew I had to have that album. I gave some obvious hints to Josh in December and he gave it to me for Christmas. He may regret that, since every time I need to get some housework done I crank it up and spend the first few minutes of clean up time gettin’ down. Even Gabe and Emma shake it. Just Fine, the third song on her album is also a great dancing song with Mary J.’s bold, funky style. I just loves me some soul. Click play to listen.

I won’t be dissin’ your music. You do have great taste in music…and pretty much everything else for that matter. I finally got my iTunes back working and I will have to purchase some of these songs.

Sara, you should try out Amazon’s MP3 store. It’s way better than the iTunes store for a lot of reasons.

    http://www.amazonmp3.com

    1. The songs do not have any “digital locks” (DRM) on them. That means they’ll work with other computers and other MP3 players besides iTunes and iPod (though they work perfectly there, too). Songs you buy from iTunes ONLY play in iTunes, and ONLY play on iPods, and ONLY on instances that you have “authorized” with your iTunes account, which you can only do 5 times. DRM is evil.

    2. The songs are usually a little cheaper than on iTunes.

    3. They download and show up in iTunes, just like you’d expect. They have full, nice album art.

The only problem is that there are some songs that they don’t have (just like there are some songs that iTunes doesn’t have, some of which are available on Amazon). But when the song IS available on AmazonMP3, you’ll be much happier if you buy it from there. It will do your dishes for you, watch your kids for two hours a day so you can relax and get some personal time, wash your car, and mow the lawn, too. :-)
